American Express 70K Business Checking Offer (Targeted)

The Offer: Earn 70K Membership Rewards points after completing promotion requirements. Offer expires January 31, 2025. *This expiration date may be different in the future, as targeted offers are sent out to more customers.

The standard offer is 30K MR points and there is another targeted offer for 50K MR points. The 70K MR points offer is the highest I’ve ever seen for this account.

Eligibility:

  • Nationwide, but Targeted. “This Welcome Offer is only available to select businesses who were solicited directly by American Express and who must apply with their existing credentials through the link provided”.
  •  You are not eligible to earn a welcome bonus for any accounts opened for a business that currently has or has had an American Express business checking account.

Step 1: Open your first American Express Business Checking account, using targeted 70K offer links.

Step 2: Deposit a total of $15,000 or more in eligible deposits that you make and are posted to your account within 30 days from account opening. Deposits from other American Express Business Checking accounts, interest payments, and deposits using Redeem MR Points for Deposits feature do not qualify.

Step 3: Maintain an average daily balance in your account of at least $15,000 for 60 days, starting on the date that your eligible deposits are equal to $15,000 or greater.

Step 4: Complete 5 qualifying transactions within 60 days of account opening. “Qualifying transactions” are defined as mobile deposits, check deposits by mail, and electronic/online transactions, including ACH, Wire, and bill payment transactions made to or from your account. *Business debit card transactions and deposits using Redeem MR Points for Deposits feature are not qualifying transactions.

Note: See my data points below for what qualified as my 5 transactions.

Step 5: After requirements are met, the Membership Rewards (MR) points will be credited to the MR program account linked to your Amex Business Checking account within 8 to 12 weeks.

Where Can I Find the Targeted Offer?

Before I was targeted for the 70K offer, I frequently saw the standard 30K offer pop up in my Amex app, under “Offers”. I never signed up for it, and hoped that one day I would check and see the elevated offer available.

After about 10 months of passing up on the 30K offer from the App, I received a mailer from Amex with the 70K promotion offer. Right around the same time, I got a targeted email from Amex with the same 70k promotion offer. I signed up right away.

Others have mentioned seeing the targeted offer under the “Offers” tab in the Amex app or as a pop up offer while signed in to their Amex account on their desktop.

Summary & Links

The Good:

-No Monthly Service Fees (MSFs).

-Standard offer is 30K MR points.

-Checking account earns 1.30% APY on balances up to $500k, which is very competitive for a checking account since most earn 0%.

-No EATF (early account termination fee).

-American Express 24/7 customer service.

The Bad:

-High deposit amount of $15,000 with a 60 day hold requirement.

-5 transaction requirement, with debit card purchases not qualifying.

My 5 Qualifying Transactions:

The following qualified to meet the 5 transaction requirement. Amex has a tracker where you can see your promotion completion progress.

  • 2 ACH pushes from my Wealthfront account. These were the deposits made to meet the $15k deposit requirement.
  • 3 ACH pushes from my Amex Business Checking Account to my SoFi Savings account.

Overall: The 70K MR points promotion is worth doing for those who can receive the targeted offer and meet the deposit requirements. The 1.30% APY makes it a bit less painful when moving funds out of a HYSA to complete this offer.
