Early Warning Services (EWS)
Early Warning Services LLC is a financial services technology company (Fintech). They are a financial consumer reporting agency that collects your banking data for checking accounts / savings accounts from banking institutions. They collect data on fraud and suspicious activity, providing the information to certain financial institutions.Â
As of late 2024, EWS reports that they are partnered with more than 2500 banks and credit unions. EWS also owns and operates Zelle, a money transferring service.
What is Being Tracked by EWS?
EWS tracks your banking history and activities including:
- Identification information
- Account status
- Suspicious activity
- Fraudulent activity
- Identity theft
- List of financial institutions that accessed your information in the past 36 months

EWS is jointly owned by some of the largest banking institutions including Bank of America, PNC Bank, Capital One, Chase, Wells Fargo, Truist, and U.S. Bank.Â

Why Is EWS Important?
The banking institutions want to ensure that they do business with customers that are not engaged in any fraudulent activities, money laundering, closing accounts with negative balances, etc. In order to keep a good EWS report, refrain from doing the following things:
- Have accounts with negative balances
- Engage in any type of fraudulent activity
- Overdrafts
- Close accounts with negative balances
- Write checks that will be rejected due to low account balances
How To Obtain Your EWS Report
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are entitled to a free copy of your EWS consumer report, at your request, once per year.
If you have been denied an account and your EWS report was used in the decision process, you can request your consumer disclosure report to help you understand what may have contributed to that decision. You can review the report and file a dispute if you find any incorrect information.
